Thanks be to God—the Almighty has chosen his Broadway angels! Two-time Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald and SNL’s Tim Kazurinsky will star opposite Jim Parsons in new comedy
An Act of God . Directed by Joe Mantello, the stage adaptation of The Last Testament: A Memoir By God, will begin a limited engagement on May 5 with opening night set for May 28 at Studio 54.
Fitzgerald will play Michael. He received Tony nods for Finian’s Rainbow and Young Frankenstein. Other Broadway credits include The Merchant of Venice, Wicked, Amour and Chicago. Screen credits include The Good Wife, Elementary, Twins, Girl Most Likely and Larry Gaye: Renegade Male Flight Attendant.
Kazurinsky will take on the role of Gabriel. He was a cast member of Saturday Night Live (1981- 84) and played Officer Sweetchuck in three Police Academy films. A 20 year stint as a screenwriter (My Bodyguard, About Last Night, For Keeps, The Cherokee Kid, Strange Relations) followed. Stage credits include The Odd Couple, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Old Jews Telling Jokes, and for the past year he has played the Wizard of Oz in the first National Tour of Wicked.
The Creator Himself has written the Play, which has been transcribed by Emmy-winning The Daily Show head writer and executive producer David Javerbaum. God (through His press agent) has billed the show as such: “A 90-minute conversation in which I will reveal the mysteries of the Bible and answer some of the greatest existential questions that plague mankind.” In an early statement, He said, “This Play will help clear up the fallacy that I’m old fashioned…and instead reveal the true Me: up-to-date and holier-than-you.”
Although the show is playing at the holy locale of Roundabout's Studio 54, it is not a Roundabout production. This is the Word of the Lord.
